The maintenance tried to tell us someone must have thrown something at it? Like, a rogue romeo or something??? Please - we live on the 10th floor! The glassman came to look at it yesterday morning and said the temperature contrast between outside and inside did it, and there must have been something strange about the glass for it to do this.
The thing is, it will stay like this until we touch it, which will make it shatter. So you can imagine the fun we are having trying to keep a mobile and naughty one year old away from there. Every so often she makes a break for it and starts running that direction and we have our own little Olympics - where I have to sprint and jump the coffee table to block her. Then she squeals, 'beng' which is a Chinese word that mimics the sound of the glass breaking.
Fun times in our household. The glassman was 'bu qingchu' or not clear, on when it would be able to be repaired. So we are operating on a no touch basis in our living room...

that happened to one of my parent's large living room windows when i was little. I remember it sounding like a gunshot. It just burst and started crackling as we sat there on the couch watching TV. Super weird.
That's exactly what happened! There was this enormous crack, and then all these little popping noises as the glass broke. The best part is, its still like that! With the Olympics here, all outside moving vehicles are blocked from the city to help traffic and prevent pollution, so we can't get a new piece of glass until the Games are over...3 weeks to go!
