So, Pepsi is changing their logo - again. In early 2009, they will be unveiling their fifth logo in nearly 20 years or so.
From a marketing standpoint, I think this is bizarre. First of all, I don't really like how the new logo looks, and I don't see why they should need to update their current one again. It doesn't really look or feel outdated... It's common for companies to modify their logos ever so slightly over the years to modernize them, and lots of the time, consumers don't really notice the changes unless they find a picture of an old product and realize its changed. But I think people will notice this - and I don't think the packaging looks that nice... I'm almost always a fan of all lower-case font - but I don't think it works here. I think the font is all wrong. They need a typography expert on the case. Is that Ariel? It looks cheap.
Thoughts?
I'm guessing the executives at Coke are smiling - they win this round. Their zero line is hot.

I think the new logo looks almost generic. Like if I didn't look closely and I was in Wal-Mart I'd assume it was the Wal-Mart brand. What is that, Sam's Club? Anyway, I think you're right, this will not be a good thing for Pepsi.
