Recently I bought a new phone, and the experience itself seemed to be filled with drama. First I bought a dud, then got a new phone and didn't charge it long enough the first night, so I have a bad battery, etc, etc.
So over the past week I noticed that I had lots of missed international calls, which just show up as 0000000000 on my phone. It really irritated me, as I often had the phone out or on the table and I never heard it ring, and even worse, I don't know who called so I can't call them back. Just when I was starting to assume that there was yet another thing wrong with my phone, I get a call from my Dad shortly after another mysterious missed call.
Dad immediately says how happy he is to finally reach me, and that he has been trying to call me for a few days, but some weird music comes on instead of him being able to ring me. However, he's found out that if he hangs up real fast and calls me right back, the phone will ring.
Recently I download a ringback song on my phone, so when people call me they listen to music instead of the actual 'ring ring' sound. This is popular in the US and in Asia, yet my Dad had never come across it and thought something was wrong with the phone. Even funnier, is that he had devised a way to beat the system, by hanging up when the song starts and dialing back immediately. Who knew you could trick the ringback function?
This made me laugh so hard, not only am I relieved that something is not wrong with my phone, but the obvious generation gap was hysterical!
