why is this necessary?

A farmer in northern China has spent size years developing baby-shaped pears. Seriously, I couldn't make this up.


Apparantly the fetal fruit are made by sculpting the pears inside a casing as they grow. They look more like Buddhas to me... Either way, not sure I could bit the things head off!


Does this really help business???


Apparently the answer is yes, it does! Locals supposedly snap them up for about 50 RMB, compared to the price of a regular pear, which is about 2 RMB.

I guess its one way to make your produce 'pop' at the fruit stands...
