it's the little things

Unpacking some of the remaining boxes yesterday, Dom came across a wrapped gift I had bought Niamh as we left China. It's a gorgeous photo album by Chinese designer brand, Shanghai Tang. While I know she won't really appreciate this, I thought it would be a beautiful album to put her pictures in from her last year in China, sort of a farewell China gift. She loves looking at her baby photo album, and this seemed something she would enjoy (once I got the pictures in!).

The idea was to give it to her when we got to Singapore and put the photographs in shortly after. Best laid plans...

Last night she spotted the beatifically wrapped Shanghai Tang box Dom had dug out.

She squealed with excitement and anticipation as I told her it was for her. Then ripped the box open.
As I pulled it out to show her, a styrofoam disk fell out of the center of the photo album.

Said child, squealed with delight and proceeded to jump up and down, clutching her treasure, shouting "I like it! I liiiiiike it!!!"

The photo album faded into the background, and unable to re-focus on the gift, I admitted defeat and allowed her to clutch her prize.

For Christmas, I'm considering wrapping up bubblewrap, styrofoam and empty cardboard boxes.

It's the little things...
