sneaky snacks

One of my husband's many commendable traits is that he likes to bake things from scratch. Over the past year, his focus has primarily been on fresh bread, ranging from homemade bagels to wheat breads to oat and seed varieties.

Recently, he baked a multigrain loaf. After taking the bread out of the oven, he always sets it on the cooling rack and cuts off a slice. He usually puts butter on this piping hot slice and shares it with Niamh and I - so everyone has a taste of the fresh bread.

We usually then leave it to cool, and put the loaf in the bread bin to save for later.

This time, I came back into the kitchen a few minutes later to find this:

Either we have a mouse problem, or someone small helped themselves to a little more bread.
